According to the interrogation results, MZS was allegedly acting as a courier for the members of an international narcotics syndicate, the Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw stated on Thursday.
MZS was arrested at the Indonesia-PNG border post after the officers spotted a suspicious suitcase that he was carrying.
Thereafter, the officers checked the suitcase and found four kilograms of methamphetamine.
MZS was imprisoned for possessing drugs and was detained at Pondok Bambu Prison, Jakarta, in 1999.
Waterpauw also noted that the Indonesia-PNG border has possibly been used as an entry and exit point to smuggle narcotics.
"The Papua Police will cooperate with the relevant parties, including the National Anti-narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Directorate of Narcotics of National Police, to expose the syndicate for which MZS worked," Waterpauw added.(*)
