Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), at a meeting of the economic regulation program III, asked all related ministries to reduce the prices of fuels such as premium and diesel oil.

"We need Pertamina to recalculate whether it is possible to reduce the price of premium fuel," Jokowi said here on Thursday.

The economic regulation program meeting discussed a variety of steps being taken to improve the economic condition in the country.

"In this meeting, we will follow up on the third economic regulation program. I hope that the next package of economic regulations will be issued in the beginning of the next week," the president said.

The president also urged that the bank, too, can lower the interest rates by implementing measures to enhance efficiency.

During the meeting, Jokowi asked the ministries to improve the labor intensive sectors to increase peoples purchasing power. The president said the Public Works Ministry and the Agricultural Ministry should take up construction of water irrigation network in some areas.

He also requested Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo to utilize the village development fund to support labor intensive projects.

The president also asked for restructuring of the micro, small and medium (SMEs) enterprises. "We need to make positive efforts in the short term to ensure the development of SMEs in Indonesia," Jokowi said.

Several senior officials who attended the closed door meeting included Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Economic Coordinating Minister Darmin Nasution, Industrial Minister Saleh Husin, Minister of Agricultural and Spatial Affairs Ferry Mulsidan Baldan, and Financial Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro.(*)
