Beijing (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has included the issue of human trade in the draft of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on police cooperation between the two countries that had earlier expired in 2009.

Indonesia and China have discussed again a plan to extend the MoU on police cooperation between the two countries that expired in 2009 to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of law and security.

"We have proposed extending the MOU that expired in 2009. We have already submitted a draft of the MoU but China has so far not responded to it. We have now (again) sought confirmation about it," Indonesias national police head, General Badrodin Haiti, said to ANTARA here on Friday.

After meeting with the Chinese Minister of Public Security, Guo Shengkun, he said, "If the draft is agreed to, cooperation programs could be formulated under the framework."

He said Indonesia has included issues such as cross-border crimes, corruption, illegal mining, cyber crimes and human trade in the draft MoU.

"Until now, Indonesian representatives have brought home around 200 Indonesian citizens who had become victims of human trade in China. This is a serious problem that the two countries must tackle," General Badrodin Haiti said.

Regarding cyber crime, he said this was also one of the important issues that the two countries have tackled. So far, Indonesia has deported around 750 Chinese and Taiwanese citizens for having committed the crime in Indonesia.

" So, there have been a lot of security and legal issues involving the two countries and, therefore, cooperation between the two countries police in the field of law is important. It needs to be strengthened and increased by extending the MoU," he said.

He said China has expressed its agreement about Indonesias proposal.

"We have agreed and would soon form a team to deal with the issue of extending the MoU," Chinese Minister Guo Shengkun said.

The meeting was held behind closed doors on the sidelines of a ministerial-level ASEAN-China meeting/dialog on law and security.(*)
