Pamekasan (ANTARA News) - Twenty-four pairs of cow coming from four districts on the island of Madura, East Java, took part in the cow race locally known as "karapan sapi" to win President Cup 2015 here on Sunday.

"The cows competing in the karapan sapi event this time are winners from the four district competitions on Madura," head of Pamekasan Regional Coordination IV, Asyhar, said.

Like in the year before cow racers are not allowed to use violent methods such as rubbing analgesic or chili sauce on the body parts of the animals to make them run faster during the race.

The police have deployed at least 252 personnel to assure security of the event.

Pamekasan resort police spokesman Adjunct Commissioner Bagjo Supriatmanto said the deployment of many police personnel in the evet was done in anticipation against any eventuality.

Personnel from the military (TNI) and local administration police forces are also deployed to help the police assure the security.
