Jalalabad (ANTARA News) - At least one person was dead with 12 others wounded after a suicide bomber detonated a truck bomb near a police station in Afghanistans eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday, police said.

"The incident took place at around 06:00 a.m. local time. The attacker exploded the car bomb in front of the Surkh Rod police station at the middle of a local bazaar, killing himself and injuring 12 people," a district police source told Xinhua.

The injured, including five police personnel and seven civilians, were shifted to the district hospital, the source said.

The police station building and more than 20 shops were destroyed by the blast. Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The province with Jalalabad as its capital, 120 km east of the Afghan capital, has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces, Islamic State (IS) militants and Taliban insurgents over the past couple of months.
