Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) has completed a contingency plan to anticipate the possible eruption of Mount Bromo in East Java.

"BNPB and BPBD (Regional Disaster Mitigation Board) in Probolinggo district have completed the contingency plan," Head of the Information and Data Center and Public Relations Service of BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said Saturday.

The contingency plan includes preparing evacuation camps and personnel to help residents in case of eruption, he said.

"With the contingency plan, we have been prepared for the possible eruption of Mount Bromo. We have calculated how many residents will evacuate, where they will evacuate, how many personnel will assist them, and how many vehicles and tents will be needed," he said.

The contingency plan also involves many parties including military personnel, police officers and agencies in the district, he said.

The BPBD keeps monitoring the latest condition of Mount Bromo every six hours, he said.

The volcano, which is located on the border of Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Lumajang and Malang districts in East Java, is still on the alert status, he said.

The status of Mount Bromo has been raised from Alert 2 to Alert 3 after the volcano showed signs of increased activities.

The volcano recently sent thick ash up to 400 meters into the sky, he said. The ash moved southwesterly.
