Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia, the chair of G-33 group of developing nations, has vowed to struggle for the interests of its members at the 10th World Trade Organization (WTO) Summit to be held in Nairobi, Kenya.

"G-33 will make an effort to struggle for the agricultural interests of developing nations in the context of development, particularly with regards to food security, poverty alleviation and rural development through the special safeguard mechanism (SSM) and public stock holding (PSH)," Trade Minister Thomas Lembong said in a press statement released on Thursday.

As the Coordinator of G-33, Thomas will lead a meeting aimed at assessing farm negotiations and finding solution to ensure that the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) can continues after the Nairobi meeting.

Ministers form 48 member states will attend the Summit.

"As the Chair of the G-33 group of developing countries, Indonesia needs to bridge difference of interests to achieve a realistic and pragmatic agreement," Thomas said.

The G-33 see the Nairobi Summit as an important chance to reiterate the collective commitment of all WTO member states to create a strong, fair and credible multilateral trade system as stated in the G-33 ministerial communiqu�, he said.

The Trade Minister also attended a number of ministerial-level consolidation meetings of the G-33, G-20 and Cairns Group. The meetings were held back-to-back at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi on December 14.

The joint communiqu� underscored the importance of the agricultural sector to support food security, livelihood, and the development of least developed countries (LDCs), as mandated by the agreements reached at the WTO in Doha during the ministerial meeting in 2001 and during the Hong Kong ministerial meeting in 2008.(*)
