"Other big cities that need mass transportation system but do not have ample land can follow this system," President Jokowi stated on Wednesday while inspecting the drilling work at the MRT tunnel projects site where the Senayan Station will be built.
He cited the names of several cities that had begun developing a mass transportation system, such as Palembang in South Sumatra, with its ongoing light train transit (LRT) project.
"There is also Surabaya (East Java), but it uses a tram network," noted Jokowi.
The president said he continues to monitor the progress in the development of the Jakarta MRT.
"I continue to oversee the developments in the MRT project on a daily and monthly basis, although this is the responsibility of the Jakarta regional government," he affirmed.
Regarding the drilling at the project site, the head of state remarked that in a span of 93 days, the drilling had reached a length of 327 meters. The drilling work at Senayan Stations location is expected to be completed at the end of 2016.
"This is the prospective location for the Senayan Station. We hope the work on other stations would also be completed," he added.
