One of four former deputy chairmen of the party under Suryadarma Ali elected in the Bandung Congress in 2011 would be named acting general chairman, Romahurmuziy, who was former secretary general of the party, said here on Friday.
PPP has been split into two - one under Romahurmuziy and another under Djan Faridz after Suryadarma Ali was named suspect and later arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on charge of corruption.
At that time PPP under Suryadarma Ali joined the opposition coalition parties led by Gerindra
Romahurmuziys faction, however, threw its allegiance to the government and joined the ruling parties and the rival faction remained with the opposition coalition continuing the old position taken by Suryadarma, who later stepped down.
The government gave its recognition to the faction under Romahurmuziy but the court ruled against the governments decision leaving the minority party without legal standing.
Originally the party wanted to name its acting general chairman at a meeting on Friday night but the plan was put off until next week as it wanted to more comprehensive agreement.
The meeting, however was not attended by representatives from the Djan Faridz faction and Hasrul Azwar, one of the four candidates for acting general chairman.
"We will make the decision on Monday or Tuesday. Most likely on Monday," Romahurmuziy said.
The three other candidates are Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Emron Pangkapi, and Suharso Monorfa.
At the meeting the PPP leaders also agreed to hold National Working Meeting on January 15 (Friday) to decide the place and date of the next national congress expected to reach reconciliation among the two rival factions.
Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, who is minister for religious affairs, was assigned to hold communications with the Djan Faridz faction to seek its agreement to the planned national working meeting and national congress for reconciliation.
Agreement of both faction to hold the national congress is expected to end the internal conflict of the oldest Islamic party.
"There is no absolute principle, no loosing face . It is the principle of reconciliation," Romahurmuziy said.
He said the idea of holding national congress came from senior leaders of the party to put an end to internal conflicts.
"What is most important is to reach an agreement to end all conflicts and accept recommendations from the senior leaders of the party to hold national congress," he said.
He said the week before the planned national working meeting would be used to seek communications with and talk the Djan Faridz into agreeing to hold the national congress.
"We invited the Djan Faridz faction to the meeting tonight but there was no positive response," he said after the Fridays night meeting.
The meeting was also attended by members of the party tribunal, Expert Council, Advisory Council and Sharia Council.(*)
