"We will invite figures who have been speaking a lot about it, such as university rectors. We will explain to them and tell them regarding the shortcomings (of the law)," Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said here on Monday evening.
Luhut said community members would be familiarized with various aspects of the move so that they could understand and know the intention and significance behind the move to revise the law.
"The President supports the revision but wisely questioned the use of forcing a discussion on an issue when some people are not yet mature enough for it," he said.
Luhut explained that discussion on the revision of the law was postponed due to a lot of differing views within the community. Therefore, the president decided that a thorough familiarization with the issue was still to be achieved.
The minister said that revision of the law was needed "to strengthen the role and the authority of the KPK." He said this would be done within the remit of the law.
President Joko Widodo and leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) met here on Monday to discuss a number of priorities in the national legislation program.
In the meeting, the president and the DPR leadership agreed to postpone the revision of the KPK law but would not drop it from the national legislation program.(*)
