Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias mens double badminton athlete Rian Sukmawan passed away after a friendly match in Semarang, Central Java, on Saturday evening.

"After the match, he said he was exhausted and got out of the stadium. A moment later we heard Rian collapsed and could not be awaken. He was taken to the hospital and died," Rendra Wijaya, a former bandminton athlete and Rians pair in the mens double, was quoted as saying by the PB Djarum Team on its official website on Sunday.

Rendra said Rian, 30, will be buried in Semarang Sunday noon.

The Indonesian mens double player is a member of a badminton club under the management of PB Djarum. He paired with Rendra in national tournaments.

The Djarum Badminton Club informed the death of Rian on its official Twitter account.

"All stakeholders of PB Djarum expressed deep condolences over the demise of one of the best players, Rian Sukmawan," the BP Djarum said on its Twitter account.

Rian, who once paired with athlete Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki in a number of international badminton competitions from 2006 to 2010, was survived by a wife, Anna Chamellia. Rian married Anna in 2013.
