Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A landslide that struck the West Java Provincial District of Kuningan has left one person dead, according to office chief of the Kuningan District Chapter of the Disaster Mitigation Board Agus Mauludin.

"Yes, one person died due to the falling debris of a house after being swept by a landslide at 4:30am Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB)," Agus stated here on Monday.

The body of the victim identified as Ibu Nisah (85) has been recovered by the local residents, he stated, adding that three houses incurred heavy damage due to the landslide.

Agus further noted that landslides frequently occurred in the Kuningan District.

Moreover, a landslide that had hit the West Java Provincial village of Batulawang after two days of incessant heavy rains left 11 people injured, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Board.

Moreover, a two-storey hotel was also seriously damaged, Head of the Data and Public Relations Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Board Sutopo Purwo Nugroho stated here on Wednesday (March 9).

The cliff near the "Villa Kota Bunga" eroded and collapsed on the hotel lobby located on the ground floor as well as demolished the upper floor, he remarked, adding that the landslide occurred early Wednesday.

Nugroho further noted that the rescue workers had evacuated the victims.(*)
