Palembang (ANTARA News) - The Palembang district court on Tuesday sentenced a drug kingpin in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra to 15 years imprisonment.

The court, presided over by Togar, also ordered Ilmiah (40) to pay a fine of Rp2 billion or serve an additional jail term of three months.

The public prosecutor Rini Purnamawati said he accepted the courts decision but the convict said he was considering to appeal the verdict.

Ilmiah was arrested by police in an OKI restaurant in possession of around 300 grams of meta amphetamine.

Earlier police also arrested husband and wife on drug charge.

Chairullah and his wife Herlina were arrested in Palembang for possession of meta amphetamine worth more than Rp21 million on the street.

Recently the National Drug Agency (BNN) arrested Ogan Komering Ilir regent Ahmad Wazir Noviadi for taking drugs together with a number of his friends in the house of his parent.

A BNN officer said Noviadi, who was only newly installed regent of OKI,had long been addicted to drug.

The Home Affairs Minister dismissed Noviadi as a civil servant immediately after he was named suspect in durg case.(*)
