When the chief coach is a foreigner, the assistant must be Indonesian."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is considering to invite Jose Mourinho to train the countrys national team, Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi stated.
"The idea has already been discussed with President Joko Widodo and General Chairman of the Indonesia Sports Committee Erick Thohir, although this is not an easy decision," Nahrawi noted here on Monday.
Besides Mourinho, the minister was also contemplating to invite Guus Hiddink who was more experienced in training a national team unlike Mourinho who had never coached a national team.
"Mourinhos contract is valued at up to Rp250 billion per year, while Hiddinks is still lower than that," the minister stated while explaining his decision to consider Hiddink for the role.
Minister Nahrawi remarked that the idea was born out of the aspirations to boost the national teams performance at the international level, but he admitted that hiring a world-class coach was not an easy task.
"When the chief coach is a foreigner, the assistant must be Indonesian," he added.
Regarding the national teams achievement, the minister stated that all parties must be patient following the governments decision to freeze all activities of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI).
"We want to see the seriousness of all parties with regard to the PSSI case as we must also be very careful to be able to meet (FIFAs) requirements," he emphasized.
He said the revocation of the decision indeed was part of the requirements imposed by FIFA for the country to be able to participate in international tournaments.
Minister Nahrawi hoped the decision will be revoked before the FIFA Congress in Mexico on May 12 following the governing bodys requests.
"FIFA had made several requests in a letter to the minister/state secretary some time ago, and we wish to fulfill FIFAs requirements," he added.
