The detainees and inmates managed to escape during a shift change of the guards.
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - As many as 16 drug convicts escaped from the Doyo Correctional House in Jayapura, Papua, on Monday.

Head of the Drugs Correctional House of Doyo Nirhono Jatmokoadi stated here on Monday that 16 inmates had reportedly escaped at 8:30 a.m. local time after scaling the fence using a rope made from a chain of floor mats.

"The detainees and inmates managed to escape during a shift change of the guards," Jatmokoadi remarked.

Soon after the escape, the authority deployed its personnel and managed to arrest an inmate identified as WS at a nearby forest.

The incident has been reported to the Jayapura Police Office, which has also deployed its personnel to search the escaped convicts.

The escapees have been identified as Jack Ake, Austin Terens, Jack Sailes, Amros Bewangkir, Dominikus Jombori, Desmon Mozi, Zakias Ante, Rafael Gebse, Jhosua Nubora, Jackson Sarwa, Demianus Bisai, Edison Nusa, Irvendi, Neles, and Riyan.(*)
