Habib Rizieq Shihab, the chairman of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI), retired major general Kivlan Zen, retired lieutenant general Kiki Syahnakri and others were among those who had come to the office of the Coordinating Minister at the Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.
According to information received by ANTARA, these dignitaries came to the Coordinating Minister because no representative from the State Palace was ready to meet the demonstrators, whose number was estimated to be in thousands.
These people were part of the leaders who had recently organized an anti-communist national symposium, titled "Protecting Pancasila Against Resurrection of PKI (Indonesia Communist Party) and Other Ideologies."
It was not yet known what did they convey to minister Luhut as the latter was holding a coordination meeting with several ministers and other officials when they arrived.
The symposium at Balai Kartini from June 1-2 was considered in opposition to the Symposium 65 held earlier at Hotel Arya Duta. Symposium 65 is seen as being in support of communist elements.
Mass organizations involved in the anti-communist meeting at Balai Kartini include FPI-FKKPI (communication forum of children of retired army and police members), Pemuda Pancasila (youth organization), GP Ansor (Islamic youth organization), HMPI (Islamic organization), HMI (Islamic Students Organization), Muhammadiyah (Islamic organization), the Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI), GPII (Islamic youth organization) and Panca Marga youth organization.
The event was also attended by a number of retired army generals, academicians and also those who had witnessed the 1965 tragedy. (*)
