Data from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry made available on Wednesday showed that two FSRUs have been built in West Java and Lampung provinces.
The number of FSRUs is expected to increase to eight by 2018 and to nine by 2020.
The government also intends to build 24 land-based re-gasification units in 2017. The number is expected to increase to 46 in 2018, 62 in 2019 and to 64 in 2020.
The chief of the Public Communication Center at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Sujatmiko, said the government is planning to build as much gas infrastructure as possible in anticipation of an increase in the use of clean energy.
"Looking ahead, Indonesia will consume much larger quantities of natural gas due to the declining oil output," he said.
Data from the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) showed that the countrys oil output will only reach 520 thousand barrels per day (bpd) by 2020, well below its oil production figure of 783 thousand bpd in 2015.
According to SKK Migas, oil production in the 2016-2020 period will reach 810 thousand bpd 2016, 750 thousand bpd in 2017, 650 thousand bpd in 2018, 580 thousand bpd in 2019, and 520 thousand bpd in 2020. Meanwhile, gas production is expected to remain stable until 2020. (*)
