We proposed around Rp198 billion."Timika (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Air Transportation has prioritized the construction of the passenger terminal facilities at Mozes Kilangin airport in Timika, Papua province.
In 2017, the ministry will build 37 airports throughout Indonesia, Head of Transportation, Communication and Information office of Mimika John Rettob said here Friday.
Of the 37 airports, Mozes Kilangin is the top priority to be resolved, he added.
"If there are no obstacles, the central government will provide substantial funds to build and complete a terminal at the Timika airport. We proposed around Rp198 billion," Rettob pointed out.
The terminal is located on the south side of Mozes Kilangin with an area of 21 thousand square meters.
Mimika district will also build connectivity for passengers to travel between the public terminal and the VIP terminal.
Rettob hoped the Mimika district administration would allocate a budget in 2017 to complete the construction so that the connection between the two terminals can be completed within 1.5 years.
"The overall capacity will be 42 thousand square meters (excluding the VIP terminal), so the terminal and the connection could accommodate two million people. The facilities will have six aerobridges," he said.
The passenger terminal and other facilities in Mozes Kilangin (on the north side) were built by PT Freeport Indonesia and managed by PT AVCO.
In the future, the management of Mozes Kilangin airport will be handled directly by the Ministry of Transport through the Airport Operator Unit (PUBU) after the airports status has changed from a special airport-owned by PT Freeport to a public airport.
