"Drivers attempted to drive through areas demarcated for the odd-even segregation, regardless of their plate numbers," the Head of Jakarta Police Traffic Law Enforcement, Budiyanto, stated in Jakarta on Friday.
According to the records for the second day of the odd-even license policy trial, there were 1,176 cases of violations, compared to 553 on the first day.
The Jakarta Police and Transportation Bureau started the odd-even license plate regulation on a trial basis on Wednesday, July 27. That day, only vehicles with plates starting with an odd number were allowed to pass through certain protocol roads in Jakarta.
A vehicle seen plying with an even-numbered plate is being redirected to a different route.
The Jakarta Police has designated 150 officers at four locations that mark the beginning and end of the odd-even plate regulation area.
The Transportation Bureau, along with the Police, disseminated information about the odd-even license number policy from June 28 to July 26.
The trial will continue until August 26 and the policy will be officially enforced with effect from August 27.
Odd-numbered license plates will be allowed to operate through the areas on odd-dated days and even-numbered plates on even-dated days.
The policy will be enforced on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The vehicles of the President and the Vice President are exempted from the regulation along with government officials vehicles, public transportation with yellow plates, fire department's vehicles and cargo trucks, according to the Jakarta Governor's policy.(*)
