Dharmasraya (ANTARA News) - Australian Rider Saxon Irvine of the Data #3 Cisco Racing Team won the seventh stage of the 2016 Tour de Singkarak cycling road race in West Sumatra Province on Friday.

The seventh stage of the race was mainly a flat stage and had some designated sprints.

Indonesian rider Jamalidin Novardianto, who is a specialized sprinter, managed a podium finish as the runner-up, some 19 seconds behind the Australian.

Novardianto, racing for the Singha Infinite Cycling Team from Singapore, won the 100-meter sprint near the finish line.

"I had been focusing on winning this stage. I tried to remain at the front since the start. I did not want to make any careless mistakes, " Novardianto, who is nicknamed Verdi, remarked.

Novardianto and several riders led the race in the front group. However, at two designated sprint points, at 58.9 kilometers and 77.7 kilometers, Australian Irvine dashed ahead, leaving behind the group to lead the race.
