The predicate was announced at the 21st commemoration of the National Technology Revival Day 2016 in Solo, Central Java, the spokesperson of the university, Rifelly Dewi Astuti, said here on Tuesday.
It is expected that the award motivates the university researchers in working and making scientific publications in order to bring Indonesia to have global competitiveness.
"The award was based on the number of international scientific publications which kept increasing since 2011 to 2015," Rifelly said.
She said in 2015, there were 605 publications by the University of Indonesia indexed by an international bibliography database of Scopus.
The university is committed to improve the number of international scientific publication and put this as one of the universitys main program.
Besides representing a quality of higher education, the number of international publication also indicates the growths of innovation and knowledge in a country.
Data obtained from SCImago Lab, an institution that manages the pages of international scientific publications ranking, show Indonesia is at 57 by the number of publications of 39,719.
The University of Indonesia expects to produce at least 1,500 international scientific publications in 2016.
Currently, the university has 500 lecturers who are also active in carrying researches with international acknowledgement.(*)
