Before they are elected, they are supposed to have the capabilities to speak and are trained by their respective political parties," Kalla said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla disagreed with the idea of putting lawmakers through a school education to improve the quality of members of the House of Representatives as well members of the provincial, district and city legislative assemblies.
"There is no need for it. Before they are elected, they are supposed to have the capabilities to speak and are trained by their respective political parties," he said here on Monday.
He argued that each party has certain plans for training its cadres and, therefore, there is no need to set up a parliamentary school.
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Ade Komaruddin, had informed that the DPR leaders in a meeting on Thursday (Aug 25) had discussed the idea of setting up a parliamentary school to improve the quality of legislative members.
He had underlined that the DPR would immediately study the proposal for such a school to ensure that the members are well trained to fulfill their three functions of supervision, budgeting and legislation.(*)
