Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto asserted that combating terrorism requires high level of cyber capabilities.

"Currently, technology is the key to mastering the cyber world. Hence, for handling terrorism, we need quite high level of cyber capabilities," Wiranto stated after attending a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace here on Friday.

He noted that previously, President Joko Widodo had voiced Indonesias commitment to improving its cyber capabilities in order to compete at the international level.

He emphasized the urgent and important need to achieve high level of cyber capabilities that may be used in various areas, especially for combating terrorism.

"Indonesia will also increase its cyber capabilities at the national and even international levels to be used in various fields, especially to combat terrorism in all its manifestations," he said.

Wiranto stated at the ASEAN summit in Laos that Indonesia is viewed as a nation having considerable international experience in handling terrorism and radicalism.

"Indonesia has shared its views on handling terrorism in the world that are quite constructive," he pointed out.

However, he stressed that handling terrorism still requires close cooperation between countries in all regions.

"Without fairly close cooperation between countries in all regions, the handling of terrorism will be severely disrupted. It (the handling of terrorists) yesterday became the topic of serious discussion during the talks," he added.(*)
