Pontianak, W Kalmantan (ANTARA News) - Forty-five Chinese nationals were found guilty of violating the Indonesian immigration law as they stood trial at the Pontianak court in West Kalimantan on Thursday.

The Chinese nationals were also required to pay Rp10 million each in fines or face a seven-day jail term, a panel of judges led by chief of the Pontianak district court, Maryono, said.

"The 45 Chinese nationals are proven guilty of violating administrative requirements as they did not have any document to work in West Kalimantan as per the immigration law," he stated.

The court hearing attracted local residents as a large number of defendants were being tried.

A spokesman for the Pontianak immigration office, Agustianur, pointed out that tens of Chinese nationals who had been found guilty of violating immigration rules and had paid fines will soon be deported to their country.

Three Chinese nationals did not stand trial as they could produce necessary documents including passport when the immigration authorities checked them, he informed.

"The foreign nationals stood trial for light criminal offenses as they had violated the immigration law. We will complete administrative requirements to deport them immediately," he added.

He disclosed that his side will also summon the companies, PT Sepco Sub Kontraktor, PT WHW and Victory, which had brought these Chinese nationals to West Kalimantan.

On August 31, the West Kalimantan team tasked with supervising foreigners arrested 48 Chinese nationals who had entered Ketapang and North Kayong districts without necessary documents.(*)
