Jakarta (ABTARA News) - The National Narcotic Agency (BNN) has prevented the smuggling of crystal methamphetamine, or saba-sabu, weighing 10.4 kilograms from Malaysia, in the area of Pademangan, North Jakarta.

Three people - SC (39), TT (43), and BM (33), were arrested in the operation, BNN Chief Commissioner General Budi Waseso said here on Tuesday.

The drugs had been concealed inside two rattan baskets filled with bananas that were being delivered to Singkawang, West Kalimantan while crossing the Entikong border from Malaysia.

The men were believed to be members of a Malaysian drug syndicate.

"Based on information from the suspects, the meth was going to be distributed in Surabaya, East Java," Waseso said.

He said at least 52,071 people were saved from abusing the drugs thanks to the seizure of the 10.4 kg of meth.

The operation was carried out following the discovery of 30kg of meth on August 4, 2016.(*)
