Surabaya, E.Java (Antara) - The Indonesian shipyard company, PAL Indonesia, will launch two war ships of the Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV) class that were ordered by the Philippine Defense Ministry, as well as a Guided Missile Frigate (PKR-105) ordered by the Indonesian Defense Ministry.

The President Director of PAL Indonesia, M.Firmansyah Arifin, said here on Thursday that the launching of these two war ships brings to the completion this ship building project.

He said the building of the SSV-2 was completed faster than the expected deadline of May 2017, and will be handed over to the Philippine ministry in March 2017.

"The manufacturing of the SSV-2 is an international project, and PAL had competed with other countries in winning the tender," Firmansyah said.

Meanwhile, the PKR 105 ship is being built following an order from the Indonesian Defense Ministry to strengthen the national weaponry system, and is scheduled to be handed over in October 2017.

He explained that the PKR 105 is being built through a technology transfer from the Dutch shipyard company, Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS), and was tested on September 7, 2016.

PKR-105 uses modular system, and is designed for use in war on land, water surfaces and under water with maritime security systems, along with being equipped for search and rescue and humanitarian missions.

"SSV-2 is a ship developed by Insan PAL Indonesia, built after the first SSV, named BRP Tarlac 601, was sent to the Philippines in May 2016," Firmansyah said.

He added that the building of war ships has proved Indonesias capability in ship technology, meeting international standards.

The PKR-105 is 105.11 meters long and 14.02 meters wide, weighing 2,365 tons and is able to accommodate 120 people. It sails at a maximum speed of 28 knots and belongs to the Llyod Register Class.

Meanwhile, SSV is 123.0 meters long and 21.8 meters wide, weighing 7,200 tons and is able to accommodate 621 people. It operates at a maximum speed of 16 knots and is included in the Llyod Register Class.
