Jakarta, Oct.12, 2016 (Antara) -- President Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, urged the Indonesian exporters to expand to new markets, such as African countries and India despite the unpredictable global economic conditions.

"We have to start to turn our heads to the new markets we used to overlook, the markets like India and Africa that offer a huge business opportunity from its population that reaches over 60 million people," stated President Joko Widodo right after the opening ceremony of Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2016 at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Oct.12, 2016.

Not only Africa and India that provides lucrative opportunity for the Indonesian products, the President also noted that other developing markets like South Asia and Latin America have a great potential for the Indonesian exporters to expand their products. "I urge the Indonesian exporters to make a move to the markets we overlooked before," added President Joko Widodo.

The President also mentioned that the design and the packaging plays an important role to grab the consumer's attention. "I highly appreciate the Ministry of Trade and the Creative Economy Agency's initiative in helping the SMEs design the attractive packaging for their products," stated Jokowi.

Accompanied by the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukito and Vice Governor of Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidayat, President Joko Widodo inaugurated the TEI 2016. In the same occasion, the President awarded Primaduta Award and Primaniyarta to best 30 Indonesian exporters.

In addition to showcasing the export quality Indonesian products, TEI 2016 also serves as the trade making platform for the businesses, both local and abroad.

Minister Enggartiasto revealed that the event will see approximately 1100 exhibitors, including SMEs, and expect 15,562 potential buyers from 152 countries. He also added that the business commitments already sealed reach up to Rp 2,6 trillion from 14 countries.
