Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook Talaud Islands in North Sulawesi province before dawn on Friday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the earthquake which struck at 04.18 a.m. local time was located 34 km northwest of Talaud Islands or 347 km northeast of the provincial capital Manado at a depth of 46 km, the agency said on its official website.

The earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, it said.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 is considered moderate and capable of causing considerable damage.(*)
