Indonesia will raise the issue of product development at the summit."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi has briefed Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla about the preparations regarding the 2016 Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Peru this month.

"The vice president will be attending the meeting in his capacity as the chairman of the APEC delegates," Retno Marsudi informed here on Friday.

The APEC Summit in Lima, Peru, scheduled for November 17-19, will have the theme, "Quality Growth and Human Capital".

"Indonesia will raise the issue of product development at the summit," the minister added.

The government had made several efforts to promote development products since 2013 as these are Indonesias main commodities and need to be safeguarded.

The countrys main commodities are palm oil, coal, gold, natural rubber, cocoa, coffee, tea, cassava, rice and tropical spices.

Indonesia has been lending complete support to Peru as it hosts the 2016 APEC meetings.

The vice president was scheduled to have bilateral meetings with representatives of several countries.

The cooperation between Indonesia and Peru, as the host and chair of APEC 2016, in preparing the RDPA document received a positive response from all the APEC members at the group's high-ranking officials meeting on May 14-15 in Arequipa, Peru.

"Peru greatly appreciates the cooperation received from Indonesia as a co-drafter for the document that seeks to promote RDPAs efforts in the APEC region," the Director of Intra-Regional Cooperation of Asia Pacific and Africa, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Benjamin S. Carnadi, said.

According to him, Indonesia seriously pursues the cause of rural development and poverty alleviation.

This is reflected in development programs put in place by the government of Indonesia for rural and remote areas. The country has been raising these issues at the APEC forum since 2013, Benjamin noted.

The RDPA document was prepared as a follow-up to an earlier presentation made by Indonesia, entitled, "Advancing Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation Agenda in the APEC Region." It was delivered at the APEC meeting in March 2016.

The Peruvian government hopes that the initiatives related to rural communities development would be clinched through a final document, agreed upon by the leaders at the APEC summit in November 2016.

According to Benjamin, Indonesia will continue to promote the RDPA issues as one of the APECs main agenda items.
