Other countries are worried if Indonesia is strong in economy."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Military Chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said many other countries are jealous of Indonesia for its success in sustaining economic growth amid the devastating global crisis.

With a growth of 4.7 percent in 2015, the World Bank put Indonesia among eight best countries in purchasing power parity (PPP) in the world putting Britain and France behind, the general said.

"This has made other countries become jealous of Indonesia. Our country is rich in natural resources and currently Indonesia is the third most credible country for consumers in the world," Gatot said after speaking at the National Leaders meeting at the Taxation Directorate General in Jakarta on Monday.

Economic stability in Indonesia is potential to give rise to threat with other countries interested in weakening the national integration that the countrys economy would be destroyed from within, he said.

"Our Unity in Diversity is jolted as that is the way for other countries to enter Indonesia as what happens now in Libya, Iraq and Syria," he said.

Under such condition, the general said he hoped that the Indonesian economy could be stronger especially with contribution from the tax sector.

He said he hoped tax officers, heads of tax offices and other tax officials are aware of the situation and the threat the nation is facing.

"I hope tax officials could work the harder as 72 percent of the economic life blood of the nation lies in the hands of tax officials," the general said.

Taxation Director General Ken Dwijugisteadi said he agreed with what the general said that Indonesia has been seen as a threat to other nations especially after the successful implementation of tax amnesty program.

"Just imagine after the tax amnesty, the U.S. and Singaporean dollars fell in value. Other countries are worried if Indonesia is strong in economy," he said.

Ken said his office would continue to increase its role in boosting the countrys economic development by utilizing potential tax bases in all sector.

All tax payers are required to pay tax, he added.
