Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Two Afghan nationals drowned near the Layar Putih Beach, Tanjung Merdeka, Makassar District, South Sulawesi Province. Their bodies were found on Monday.

The head of National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Makassar, Roki Asikin, said here on Monday that the bodies of the two tourists were found by a local fisherman at the coast of North Galesong Beach, Takalar District.

The SAR team brought the bodies from the beach to Bhayangkara Hospital in Makassar for identification.

The two Afghans were on a vacation with three others of their nationality at Layar Putih Beach.

It was reported that the two Afghans were out swimming at dawn of Monday near the beach under the influence of alcohol.

Their companions warned both of them not to swim too far from the beach but the wave dragged them to the sea.

Finding their companions missing, the three Afghans reported the incident to a local lifeguard.

The two deceased Afghans were identified as Mohammadi (20) and Mojtaba Husain (20). Both of them were living in Wisma Mustika on Andi Mappoodang Street, Makassar with the other three, namely Zakir Husain (21), Abdullah Jafari (20) and Hasan Muhammad (24).(*)
