Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said it supports the governments program of setting the same price of oil fuel (BBM) all over the country.

Kadin general chairman Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had announced the policy in a bid to bring to reality social justice all over the country.

The program was first implemented in Papua and West Papua announced by Jokowi during his recent visit to the countrys easternmost region .

"All Indonesians have the right to have sustainable and equitable economic development," Rosan said here on Sunday.

Therefore, the price of BBM should be the same in all regions of the country, he added.

"Certainly Kadin would fully agree with the program as it has been one of the inputs we have continues to propose to the government," he said.

He said he believed implementation of the program would contribute to boosting development in Papua and West Papua, adding development could not be sustained if everything is expensive.

The price of BBM is much higher in the regions especially in Papua and West Papua on high transport cost.

The state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has to provide a subsidy of Rp800 billion a year to bring down the BBM price there to the same level as in Java.

"We appreciate the government program of using the same price of BBM in Papua as in other regions . The policy is expected to redress the imbalance of development in western and eastern regions of the country," Rosan said.

He said similar program should also be applied in other sectors such as electricity. (*)
