"It is the ministrys task to ensure food stock sufficiency (for refugees). I have to verify this directly with the state logistics agencys (Bulogs) warehouse, as the Pidie Jaya regent and acting Aceh Governor have issued an emergency letter to release the governments rice stock (CBP)," Khofifah Indar Parawansa said here, Friday.
The minister has visited the quake-hit areas in Pidie Jaya District and inspected rice stocks in Baru Siron Bulogs warehouse in Lambaro, Aceh Besar District.
Khofifah claimed the district authority could release up to 100 tons of rice, and if necessary, the governor could increase rice distribution up to 200 tons.
Rice stocks at Siron warehouse have reached 28.5 thousand tons, enough to meet local demand for six months. While in Lhokseumawe, rice stocks reached 8 thousand tons and in Pidie Jaya, 4 thousand tons.
The minister has also checked the quality of the rice in the warehouses.
A total of 103 deaths have been confirmed following the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that rocked several districts in Aceh Province on Wednesday.
Some 8 thousand inhabitants were seriously or slightly injured in the disaster. They were evacuated and received medical treatment, acting Governor of Aceh Soedarmo remarked, Thursday, while accompanying Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo.(*)
