The government is still capable of dealing with it, so international aid is not yet necessary."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said here on Friday that international assistance is not yet needed by Indonesia to deal with the impact of the recent earthquake in Aceh.

"The government is still capable of dealing with it, so international aid is not yet necessary," BNPBs Head of the Data and Information Center and Public Relations Sutopo Purwo Nugroho noted at a press conference.

He claimed aid supplies were still enough to meet the needs of the victims, adding that the most important thing was to find a way to distribute them evenly.

He said the main problem facing the victims so far was the lack of a clean water supply.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Pidie Jaya district in Aceh at 5.03 a.m. on Wednesday.

Purwo Nugroho said the number of bodies that had been identified so far had reached 88 in Pidie Jaya, two in Bireun, and two in Pidie.

A total of 589 people have been wounded: 127 of them have suffered serious injuries and the rest light injuries.
