The two units of cold storage would contribute to the regional income of the district."Malang (ANTARA News) - The district administration of the regency of Malang, East Java, plans to build a second unit of cold storage with a capacity of 500 tons of fish in the sub-district of Turen.
The second unit of cold storage will be larger than the first one being built with fund from the marine and fisheries ministry also in the sub-district of Turen.
"The fund for the construction of the second units of cold storage is also to be provided by the Marine and Fisheries Ministry and the budget is larger," Head of the district marine and fisheries office of Nasri Abdul Wahid said here on Friday.
Both facilities are located in the same sub-district of Turen but in different places. The first one is in the village of Tawangrejeni, and the second unit in the village of Kedok Wetan.
"The Malang district administration is to provide only a plot of 6,500 square meters of land and the cost of construction and procurement will be provided by the ministry," Nasri said.
Nasri said the marine and fisheries Ministry has set aside Rp15 billion for the construction of the second unit of cold storage.
Construction of the facility is to start in the middle of next year. Fishermen from other areas like Blitar and Tulungagung could also use the two units of cold storage to keep their fish fresh.
Nasri said the sub-district of Turen has been selected as the location as it is close to the largest production centers in the regency of Malang in the fish auction center of Sendangbiru.
In addition Turen has enough power supply and adequate access road, he said.
"The two units of cold storage would contribute to the regional income of the district," he said, adding fishermen would pay for the cold storage services.
Construction of the first unit of cold storage in the village of Tawangrejeni, is also financed by the marine and fisheries ministry.
It is built at a cost of Rp2.5 billion with a capacity of 100 tons, and it is almost completed, Nasri said.
The cold storage will not use ice bars instead it will use ice flake, which is more effective and hygienic.
