"Our principle is to ensure maximum security. To deal with possible mass activity, we will take persuasive and preventive approaches. We will appeal to them to be orderly," Indonesian Polices Head of Public Relations Division Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar said here on Monday.
He noted that until now, the police had not yet known for certain the location of the first session of the trial.
"That is fully under the authority of the court. We do not arrange the location. We only follow the courts decision," he confirmed.
To ensure the security of the trial, he said the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command had prepared a sufficient number of personnel.
"The most important thing is attendees will come in order. We must respect the court where justice is determined," he stated.
He pointed out that based on the latest information, the trial will indeed be carried out at the Central Jakarta District Court.
Some alternative locations were previously proposed, including the North Jakarta District Court in Cibubur, East Jakarta.
"We, the police, would follow the courts decision. In principle, wherever it is, we will impose maximum security," he remarked.
Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok as he is popularly known, will be tried after being named a suspect by the police over controversial remarks he made publicly in the district of Kepulauan Seribu, North Jakarta, which were considered insulting to the Holy Book, Al Quran.
