Jokowi arrived at Hyderabad House on Monday at noon local time, ANTARA News reported from New Delhi on Monday.
He was welcomed by the head of the Office of the Indian Prime Minister at Hyderabad House, where he and Modi held talks in the Deccan Suite.
The Indonesian president wore a black suit, while PM Modi wore a brown kurta to the meeting.
Both government heads held a 45-minute limited tete-a-tete before continuing the bilateral meeting in a conference room.
Several officers had accompanied Jokowi during his visit, including Economic Coordinating Minister Darmin Nasution, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukito, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, and Indonesian Ambassador to India Rizali Wilma Indrakesuma.
Jokowi and Modi had luncheon at 1.25 p.m. local time and witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding.
During the two-day state visit to India, Jokowi is also scheduled to have a meeting with a number of Indian business leaders.
The visit to India reciprocates that of the Indian prime minister when he visited Indonesia in October 2013.
