Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) began his state visit to Iran by holding a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, Wednesday.

The Indonesian head of State was also scheduled to hold meetings with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini and Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani, according to Bey Machmudin, head of the Presidential Secretariats Press, Media, and Information Bureau.

Jokowi and Rouhani will witness the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and issue a joint press statement.

The MoUs include cooperation on extradition and mutual legal assistance, to be signed by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi; cooperation on electricity, to be signed by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan; and investment cooperation, signed by Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, alongside their Iranian counterparts.

In the evening, before returning home, Jokowi will meet the Indonesian community in Iran at Espinas Palace Hotel, Tehran.

Members of the presidential entourage on the one-day state visit to Iran included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, Foreign Affairs Minister Marsudi, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jonan, BKPM Chairman Lembong, Chairman of the Financial Service Authorities Muliaman D. Hadad, and Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Octavino Alimudin.
