The president made the statement after attending a function to celebrate the 44th anniversary of PDIP at the Jakarta Convention Center here on Tuesday.
"Yes, it is clear that Megawati is a fighter for democracy, and she will oppose all things that are undemocratic and disturb the order, as it is against her principles," Jokowi affirmed.
Jokowi emphasized that Megawati will also protect the president, who was elected democratically.
In the meantime, Megawati noted in a political speech that she had been consistent in supporting the government and called on the president and vice president to inform her if there were certain parties intending to create unrest in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and disrespect the state philosophy of Pancasila.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla and thousands of PDIP cadres were also present at the 44th anniversary of the PDIP.
Other prominent politicians attending the celebration of the ruling party were Oesman Sapta Odang, Romahurmuziy, Muhaimin Iskandar, Surya Paloh, Imron Priono, Zulkifli Hasan, and Djan Faridz.
PDIP Chairman Andreas Hugo Pareira had earlier stated that some 5,000 people, particularly PDIP cadres from various regions, would participate in the event.(*)
