Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Several athletes of the Indonesian Pencak Silat (Martial Arts) Association (IPSI) will participate in the International Martial Arts Belgium Open 2017 as the trial event ahead of the SEA Games in Malaysia, an official stated.

"We will undergo a trial event in Belgium on May 6 and 7. This championship is only for match event without the art game," Rony Safullah, the IPSI coach, said here on Tuesday.

The Indonesian team will be eying the overall championship, which will organize 14 match events.

"Our goal is to win the championship in Belgium, after emerging as the overall champions in the Pencak Silat World Championship in Bali in 2016, as well as to increase the maturity of athletes in the match," Rony revealed, hoping that none of the Indonesian athletes would be injured in the international event.

Apart from joining the competition in Belgium, the national Pencak Silat athletes will also undergo trial matches in West Java, East Java and Bali, as well as the pre-SEA Games in Malaysia.

"For the time being, we are still undergoing the training in Ciloto, Cianjur, since 2016," Rony added.(*)
