Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be participating in the investigation involving Siti Aisyah, an Indonesian woman suspected of committing the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

"We have handed over the duty of conducting a detailed investigation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto stated, Friday.

The Indonesian government is currently awaiting the result of the investigation, thus a clear explanation on the involvement and status of Aisyah in the murder case is still pending.

Wiranto said some staff members of the ministry have been tasked with solving the case with their foreign counterparts if strong evidence of Aisyahs involvement in the murder, which took place in Malaysia, were to be found.

"Indonesia always respects the law of another country as a reference, and so there will be no form of interference," he stated.

The former minister of defense also revealed that the State Intelligence Agency had already reported some information regarding the case, but he refused to divulge any further details.

Jong Nam, 45, was reportedly killed by two women who splashed a chemical liquid on his face at the departure terminal of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Monday (Feb 13) at 9 a.m. local time while he was heading to Macau.

In connection with the murder of Jong Nam, the Malaysian police had detained the female suspect, who was said to hold an Indonesian passport.

She was positively identified from a CCTV footage at the KLIA, the police noted in a statement, adding that the arrest was made at 2 a.m. local time on Thursday.

The Malaysian police, on Wednesday, detained another woman holding Vietnamese travel documents. The police said they were looking for "few" other foreign suspects in connection with the apparent assassination of Jong Nam at the KLIA.(*)
