"Public should entrust a legal process to the KPK. The uproar may happen related to the case. But, I hope it will not disrupt community activities," Wiranto said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto has entrusted the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to complete the corruption case in the e-KTP project professionally.
"We should believe in KPK to solve the case," Wiranto stated here on Thursday.
The case that involves a number of state and party officials could attract massive public attention nationwide.
However, he urged people to remain calm in responding to the case.
"Public should entrust a legal process to the KPK. The uproar may happen related to the case. But, I hope it will not disrupt community activities," he added.
The Indonesia Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) earlier summoned House Speaker Setya Novanto as a witness in an electronic identity card (e-ID) corruption case.
" Novanto has been called as a witness for suspect Sugiharto," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah stated here.
This is the second time that the KPK has summoned Novanto after the first one on Dec 13, 2016, for the case that occurred during the Nov 2011-2012 period, when he was the treasurer of Golkar Party and concurrently head of the Golkar Party sanction at the Parliament.
Novanto denied that the members of Commission II of the House of Representatives had received bribe money for the e-ID project.
In addition to Novanto, the KPK had summoned Director of PT. Gajendra Adhi Sakti Azmin Aulia, businessman Afdal Noverman, and auditor of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) Mahmud Toha Siregar.
The KPK has named two suspects in the e-ID corruption case: former director general of population and civil administration of the Home Affairs Ministry Irman and Population Administration Information Manager of the Home Affairs Ministry Sugiharto.
According to the BPKP, the state incurred losses reaching some Rp2.3 trillion owing to a markup in the e-ID project that costs some Rp6 trillion.
Meanwhile, the government would produce electronic identity cards (e-KTP or e-ID cards) more carefully in the future given the fact that there was alleged corruption in the previous e-KTP project, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said.
"We will be more careful in the future," the minister said after attending a working meeting with Commission I of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Parliament building.
He said that although there is an alleged corruption case in the e-KTP project, yet the government continues to push for the completion of the e-KTP recording process.
"We have no problem. We go on, just like driving a car. We will continue to push ahead even if we are not smooth with the gear and the e-KTP recording process will continue to be accelerated. We are now finalizing the e-KTP tender project after cancelling the previous tender, because it was not clean and clear," the minister pointed out.(*)
