The application of human rights perspective, which emphasizes the fulfillment of the patients` rights ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has integrated the perspective of human rights in human resources development (HRD) to improve health services, Dainius Puras, UN special rapporteur for rights to health, said.
"The application of human rights perspective, which emphasizes the fulfillment of the patients rights, contributes to improving the quality of health services," Dainius said, as quoted in a press statement of the Directorate of Human Rights and Humanity of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, on Wednesday.
The UN special rapporteur made the remarks while visiting the West Sumatra provincial capital of Padang on March 27. He positively welcomed the integration of human rights perspective in educating medical workers at the Padang Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes)
"The values of human rights are built among the students of Poltekkes by educating them on the issues of gender equality, violence against women and children, and professional ethics of medical workers," he stated.
Improving the quality of human resources in the health sector is one of the main issues which have received attention from the UN special rapporteur during his stay in Indonesia.
The quality of human resources in the health sector is important as they stay at the forefront of the efforts to provide the public with better health services, he noted.
During his one-day visit to Padang, Puras met representatives of the provincial government agencies and public health service posts.
He also visited M. Djamil Hospital and Padang Pasir Public Health Service Post to review the progress and challenges in providing health services through a universal health insurance program.
