"Bank Indonesia sees that the positive performance of the countrys international trade in April 2017 contributed to the position of the countrys current account balance," Executive Director of the Communication Department of the Central Bank Tirta Segara said here on Monday.
Tirta said Bank Indonesia continues to follow developments of the global and domestic economy that would have its effect on the performance of trade balance.
Earlier the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said the country recorded a surplus of US$1.24 billion in April thanks to improvement in the performance of exports of commodities other than oil and gas.
The surplus in April, however, was smaller than surplus of US$1.4 billion recorded in March, 2017 on decline in the exports of commodities other than oil and gas.
Year-on-year, however, the surplus in April 2017 was much higher. In April, 2016, the trade surplus was only US$0.88 billion.(*)
