"The inquiry right moves on and off," the lawmaker of the Islamic United Development Party (PPP) said, adding the factions that seek to keep alive the move want to improve the KPK system of management. He denied allegation that the inquiry right move was to seek revision of the Law on KPK or weaken the agency.
Other factions hesitated to pursue the move as they consider the risk of the move causing a dent to the reputation of their political parties because of the rejection of certain elements of the people, Arsul said at a discussion on e-ID card case held by the association of the alumnus of the University of Indonesia (Iluni) here on Tuesday.
He said on coming Thursday all faction leaders are to speak about the inquiry right resolution.
He is aware of the rejection of the inquiry right against KPK by a number of elements in the community and he respected their position.
PPP has from the beginning wanted to improve the KPK management system, he said, adding inquiry right is only one of instruments for that purpose. If inquiry right is considered not right by the people , PPP is ready to use other instruments such as working committee.
The inquiry right motion at the House began when KPK rejected demand by the House Commission III to release the dossier on the legal investigation by KPK of a lawmaker of Miryam S Haryani, who allegedly told her KPK investigators that she was intimidated by a number of other lawmakers into keeping mum about the distribution of bribe fund among the lawmakers.
The KPK prosecution said more than 50 lawmakers and former makers have a share of embezzled money from the budget for the procurement of e-ID card.
Two former senior officials of the Home Affairs Ministry, a business leader, and a former legislator, have been named suspect and arrested by KPK.(*)
