We have seized three thousand firearms," Brigadier General Rikwanto said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Police have seized three thousand homemade firearms from several illegal gunmakers in Lampung, South Sumatra, and West Java.
"To stop its distribution, we have conducted raids. There is a domestic (firearms) industry in two bordering regions of Sumatra and in Cipacing, West Java. We have seized three thousand firearms," police spokesman Brigadier General Rikwanto stated here, Wednesday.
The police have conducted the raids following two fatal incidents of robbery in the provinces of Jakarta and Banten, where the criminals shot dead their victims.
He said the police have also detained some illegal gunmakers.
"They received the order, and we have detained them," Rikwanto noted.
Rikwanto emphasized that all homemade firearms producers, including those in Lampung and Cipacing, are illegal.
"They are illegal. They do not have licenses. They have the ability to make guns, and they receive orders," he added.
Earlier last week, robbers shot dead a man after he withdrew cash worth Rp350 million from a bank on Daan Mogot Street, West Jakarta.
The robbers were believed to have followed the victims car when he drove away from the bank.
On Monday, another robbery that ended with a fatal shooting occurred in Tangerang, Banten.
The victim, 22-year-old Italia Chandra Kirana Putri, was shot in the chest after attacking two men with a broomstick when she caught them attempting to steal her motorcycle from her house in Tangerang.
The police believe that perpetrators in the two incidents used homemade firearms. The police have hunted the culprits.(*)
