"He is suffering vertigo. Actually, he is sorry for being unable to attend it," Chief of the Leadership Bureau of the DPR Secretariat General Hani Tahaptari said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - House of Representatives (DPR) Chairman Setya Novanto could not meet a summons from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to give testimonies in e-ID card graft case on Friday as he had vertigo, a spokesperson said.
"He is suffering vertigo. You can imagine how he feels when he is ill. He also could not attend a (DPR) plenary meeting on Thursday (July 6) because he is ill. Actually, he is sorry for being unable to attend it," Chief of the Leadership Bureau of the DPR Secretariat General Hani Tahaptari said here on Friday.
Hani said Novanto has not been in good health for the past few days so that he had to come to the hospital for medical treatment.
Novanto attended a halal-bihalal post-fasting month gathering at the DPR Secretariat General for a while on Thursday (July 6) as he was not in good health, he said.
"After addressing the halal-bihalal, he wanted to take rest at home and could not stay at the office," he said.
The DPR chairman has written a letter to the KPK that he could not come to the KPK but he had not received a reply from the anti-graft body.
He said the KPK is likely to reschedule the questioning of the DPR chairman.
The KPK is scheduled to question Novanto on Friday as a witness in an alleged graft case related to the procurement of e-ID cards nationwide.
"It is true the KPK has summoned Setya Novanto today to give testimonies in the case against AA," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said earlier in the day.
The KPK has twice summoned Novanto as a witness on December 13, 2016 and January 10, 2017 in the case against the former director general of demography and vital statistics of the Home Affairs Ministry and the former director of the ministrys demographic information management.
The two former officials of the Home Affairs Ministry have been named defendants in the case.
The anti-graft body is in the process of summoning a number of lawmakers who allegedly know the flow of funds used in the procurement of e-ID cards.
This week, the KPK has questioned several leaders and members of the House Commission II for the 2009-2014 term.
They include Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey, former chief of faction group of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Abdul Malik Haramain, and member of the House of Representatives Commission II Arif Wibowo of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction, and former DPR chiarman Marzuki Ali.(*)
