The two suspects were shot dead as they resisted arrest, Deputy Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for Eradication Inspector General Arman Depari said at the West Kalimantan Provincial Police Station here on Monday.
Depari said the two suspects were identified by their initials as AH of Malaysia and APE of Indonesia. In the drug case, APE acted as a broker and AH as a supplier.
Following the shooting of the two drug suspects, the BNN in cooperation with the provincial police and customs office conducted an in-depth investigation and arrested five other suspects, identified by their initials as RP, AV, MY, DZ and TF.
"The crystal meth was smuggled from Kuching, Malaysia, via Jago Babang cross-border checkpoint in Bangkayang district. To deceive officers, the crystal meth was hidden in basic commodities by capitalizing on weak supervision and check by officers at the Jagoi Babang cross-border checkpoint," he said.
The anti-drug officers also seized 18 mobile phones, two cars, resident identity card, driving license, cash and bank account.
The suspects faces charges under article 114 paragraph 2, juncto article 132 paragraph 1, article 112 paragraph 2 juncto article 132 paragraph 1 of Law No. 35/2009 concerning narcotics. If found guilty, they could be sentenced to death. (*)
