Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The Riau Provincial Police seized 4.76 kilograms of crystal meth and 5.8 kilograms of hashish during a month-long raid in the province.

During the raid the police also arrested nine drug suspects, Chief of the Riau Provincial Police Inspector General Zulkarnain Adinegara said here on Tuesday.

The police also seized 880 ecstasy pills and 50 Happy Five pills in the raid, he said.

Most of the drug cases were dealt with after the police received tip-offs from the public. The police later followed up on the tip-offs by conducting investigation, he said,

"In disclosing the case, we still need to conduct in-depth investigation and search for other suspects," he said.

Some of the drug cases came to light after the police conducted in-depth investigation at correctional facilities, he said

"The raid on correctional facilities, including Pekan Baru correctional facility has been fruitful," he said.

The chief of the Riau provincial police said from the beginning he has waged war against drugs. He threatened to firmly deal with any of his men who were found guilty of being involved in drug abuse.

Only recently, the police reveled a new case in Meranti island in which a police officer was allegedly involved in a crystal meth transaction, involving 1.5 kilograms of crystal meth and hundreds of ecstasy pills.(*)
