The projects will help distribute the power from the main plant at South Sumatra.
"The development should be accelerated so that maximum power can be distributed from South Sumatra to other parts of the island that have high demand, such as the northern part," the Sumatra Regional Business Director of PLN, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto, said in a press statement received in Padang, Monday.
In the first half of 2017, PLN has built 1.658 kilometers (km) of circuit, which stretches from Lahat-Payakumbuh, Sarulla-Sidempuan, and Pangkalan Susu-Galang. Soon, the power lane for Payakumbuh-Padang Sidempuan, stretching as far as 600km, will be activated.
PLN has already bought and secured the area to build a 2.213 electrical tower.
"The faster the power highway is built, the better will be the distribution of power. The supply will be more reliable, and will save billions of rupiah (Indonesian currency) from PLNs budget each month," he stated.
The 150kV transmission project, which happened in the first half of 2017, was already distributing power to areas upto 1.932km. In August, PLN was already operating the 150kV transmission for the Bukit Kemuning-Liwa power lane, which stretches around 120km. The power came from 30 MVA Liwa plant.
With the additional capabilities of the Bukin Kemuning-Liwa lane and the Liwa plant, PLN has succeeded in meeting its distribution demands, and improved its reliability as well. Besides this, with the new expansion coverage, PLN has the potential to earn Rp8.2 billion each month.
Furthermore, PLN has also completed the transmission for 21.483-km Tenayan-Perawang lane with the 60 MVA Perawang plant. The project itself was considered a speedy one, because it was started on October 5, 2016 and completed in August 2017.
Earlier, the Tenayan-Perawang area was serviced only by a 20kV plant. With the new improvement, the reliability will improve and the income will increase by Rp16.5 billion each month.
"The project could not have succeeded without the support of the local government and the people, who gave up their land to PLN for the electrical tower. Of course, the hard work from all the team on the field also played an important role in ensuring the project here in Sumatra," Wiluyo emphasized.
